Generous John could be in line for award

A kind-hearted van driver is in the running for a top award. The Countryside Alliance has announced its shortlist of Rural Heroes of 2009.

John Trapmore, from Emsworth, was nominated for volunteering to help a unique cancer charity.

Jill Grieve, from Countryside Alliance, said: 'John volunteered his van and his driving services to breast cancer fly fishing charity Casting for Recovery and is now an indispensable member of the team.

'He lives on the Hampshire coast and yet happily moves marquees, tackle and clothing from Northamptonshire to wherever they are needed.

'It's not just the incredible mileage - he drives for nothing more than expenses, it's the commitment he shows to the charity and its aims. John is always smiling, helpful, courteous and never, ever complains no matter how fraught or tired he must get.

John's love of fishing extends to helping organize a junior boat fishing competition at Langstone every year.'

The winner will be announced February 3.
