Green-friendly homes could be get tax cuts

LANDLORDS are being encouraged to make energy savings and get a tax cut.

Up to £1,500 can be claimed from making energy-saving improvements to rented properties.

Landlords, through the Landlords Energy Saving Allowance (LESA), can claim tax allowance for the cost of buying and installing energy-saving measures.

For example, if someone spend £815 on cavity wall and loft insulation as well as a hot water tank jacket, they can claim the full amount back against tax and save £365 a year on energy bills.

Cllr Melissa Maynard, who is in charge of energy and renewables at East Hampshire District Council, said: ‘Making energy-saving improvements can help create a more comfortable home for tenants, and reduce their energy bills.

‘I hope landlords will take advantage of this offer and install insulation on their properties.’
