Gritters on standby as snow falls in Hampshire

GRITTERS are being kept on standby at the moment.

Despite a sudden snow flurry in the past hour, Hampshire County and Portsmouth City councils are not sending out the trucks.

As the snow is not laying and is not affecting services, the authorities are not taking any action - but they are closely monitoring the situation.

Met Office forecaster Helen Roberts said the weather should begin to calm down around now. ‘There are weather warnings in place in other parts of the country, but not particularly for the Portsmouth area,’ she said.

‘It appears that the risk of frost will be low.

‘Tuesday will be dry and cloudy but it will be cold.

‘A batch of rain pushing itself from the west will arrive by Wednesday afternoon and there is a likelihood that there will be a repeat of recent amounts.’
