Hampshire parks given new status to protect wildlife
Two parks have been officially granted new local nature reserve status.
The new status for Warsash Common and Holly Hill in Sarisbury will mean they have extra protection against development and will be used to promote conservation.
Cllr David Swanbrow, in charge of environment matters for the council, said: 'It is a great honour designating them as local nature reserves, which is thanks to the hard work and commitment of the volunteers at both sites.
'This status given by Natural England formally recognises the importance of these countryside sites locally for both wildlife and people.
'They are a valuable natural resource and provide opportunities for visitors to learn about and enjoy nature and the outdoors.'
Local nature reserves need to be managed with nature conservation as top priority. Visitor access and education is also an important aspect of the management with ongoing infrastructure improvements and the installation of informative sign boards at both sites.
