HAMPSHIRE police has maintained its place as the UK’s top police force for lesbian, gay and bisexual people.
The force is ranked 14th in this year’s Stonewall Workplace Equality Index.
The index ranks the country’s employees on their commitment to lesbian, gay and bisexual staff and communities.
Hampshire Constabulary Chief Constable Alex Marshall said: ‘My organisation is as committed now as it ever has been to providing an excellent service and ensuring everyone is treated fairly, equally and with respect.’
Inspector Julie Fry, chairwoman of Hampshire Constabulary’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Group, said: ‘Our commitment to our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender staff and communities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight remains undiminished.’
The Royal Navy finished 77th in the national survey of 350 firms.
It has taken part in the survey since 2006, finishing 179th in 2010 and 112th last year.
Commodore Rupert Wallace said the navy was ‘delighted’ to finish in the top 100 for the first time, adding: ‘It shows a strong and clear message that the navy is an inclusive employer and that we are committed to embracing diversity and inclusion amongst our workforce.’
