Handyman stole from elderly woman
A HANDYMAN who conned a vulnerable 88-year-old woman out of £18,500 has been convicted.
Robert Schlick, 64, who was an odd-jobs man in Bognor, took over the woman's banking when she became ill in 2008.
But Chichester Crown Court heard he took thousands of pounds from her account with cheque withdrawals made out to him.
Schlick splashed out 200 on her credit card during a night-out at a Portsmouth casino.
Detectives entered Schlick's home on a search warrant and the lady's credit card details were recovered, along with a letter from the bank addressed to her warning her that she was significantly overdrawn, and a key to her address.
Schlick, of Admiralty Road, pleaded guilty to five charges of theft, fraud and money laundering and received a 12-month sentence, suspended for 12 months.
He was also given a four-month curfew order, to remain at home between 7pm and 6am each day.
Any items bought during his spending spree will be confiscated.
