Hate campaign activists' sentence due on Monday

SIX animals rights activists, including two who lived in Gosport, who led a campaign of hate against Huntingdon Life Sciences animal testing lab will hear their sentences next week.

Judge Keith Cutler said he wanted the weekend to consider the verdicts for Sarah Whitehead, 53, Nicole Vosper, 22, Thomas Harris, 27, Jason Mullan, 32, Nicola Tapping, 29, and Alfie Fitzpatrick, 21, after hearing mitigation for them.

Tapping and Harris lived together in Gosport and were also members of Southern Animal Right Coalition; all six were all also members of Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC).

Winchester Crown Court has already heard how they waged a wide-ranging international conspiracy of intimidation against a host of supply companies to force the closure of Cambridge-based HLS using SHAC as a front.

Action included targeting the homes of staff and offices with realistic hoax bombs, criminal damage and abusive telephone calls. Threats of violence were also used to force companies to cut links with HLS.

Company directors had leaflets distributed near their homes falsely telling neighbours they were convicted paedophiles and others had used tampons sent through the post saying the blood was HIV positive.

They will hear their sentences on Monday.
