HAVANT MP David Willetts has decided to stand down at next year’s General Election.
Mr Willetts wrote to David Cameron about his intentions last week, and says he has agreed with the Prime Minister to stand down as minister for universities and science with immediate effect.
It comes as Mr Cameron’s begins his government reshuffle, and full details of new appointments are expected to be announced tomorrow.
Speaking to The News, Mr Willetts said: ‘It’s been a great privilege to represent Havant for so long – for more than 20 years.
‘I have decided that the time has come to stand down.
‘After more than 20 years the time has come to move onto fresh challenges.’
Asking what those challenges will be, Mr Willetts said: ‘I really don’t know. At the moment I am still concentrating on my parliamentary duties.’
