Havant pupils taught how to stay safe this summer

Pupils at a school in Havant received a timely lesson on how to keep safe in the summer.

Youngsters from St Albans Infant School, Leigh Park, had a surprise visit from Ivor Goodsite, mascot of the Considerate Constructors scheme, who went to advise pupils against wandering on to building sites.

The visit was arranged by Guinness Hermitage Housing Association and Clameg Construction, who are working in partnership to build three new homes in St Albans Road, West Leigh.

The children were told about the potential hazards on building sites and the consequences of ignoring them.

Steve Chesters, Clameg Construction contracts manager, invited the pupils to enter a design-a-safety-poster competition to demonstrate what they had learnt about site safety.

All of the pupils will have their designs used on Clameg's sites to act as a reminder about safety issues.

Mr Chesters said: 'We contacted the school as part of our ongoing safety awareness campaign and we were delighted with the excellent response.

'We can hopefully make a long-lasting impression and help avoid unnecessary injuries on building sites.'
