Havant youngsters urged to join sponsored walk

A sponsored walk is being held to raise cash for a new youth club in Leigh Park.

Councillor Faith Ponsonby has organised the walk along Hermitage Stream on Sunday for the Good Vibes club which is set to open in September.

It is expected to cost 3,000 a year to run, and Cllr Ponsonby also wants Off the Record, the young people's counselling service, to benefit from the walk as well.

The organiser says: 'Many people say there is not enough for our young people to do, so here is an opportunity to help start up an evening club.

'The young people's enthusiasm for this has been infectious. We hope it will become a regular event, which will keep this new youth club going for many years.'

Participants can run or walk the route as many times as they wish, starting opposite Park Community School in Middle Park Way and ending on Stockheath Lane, close to Trosnant School. Registration starts at 2.30pm.

Havant's deputy mayor Councillor Yvonne Weeks will be joining fundraisers and the 3rd Leigh Park Scout group, and volunteers from Park Community School will be on hand during the event to help and provide refreshments.
