FAREHAM residents are being urged to vote in the Hampshire County Council elections.
A county-wide election only takes place once every four years and the next is taking place on Thursday, May 2.
Andrew Smith, the county returning officer and chief executive, said: ‘The County Council elections provide an opportunity for the democratic process to take place and for the public to have their say at the ballot box.
‘I would therefore encourage everyone who is entitled to vote to turn out on 2 May and choose who they want to represent them.’
County councillors represent voters in all 75 electoral divisions.
They are in charge of decision-making in the Hampshire County Council area, ranging from education, roads and social care, to access to the countryside, museums and libraries.
They also decide how £1.8bn of taxpayers’ money is spent.
The names of candidates standing for election will be published on the County Council’s elections webpages hants.gov.uk/elections on Tuesday, April 9.
