HMRC to drop court challenge over Pompey administration
Pompey today got a major boost after the taxman dropped a court challenge which could have seen the club wound up.
The News has learned that revenue and customs officials will abandon their claim that Pompey owner Balram Chainrai did not have the legal right to put the club into administration.
Pompey were due to contest HMRC's claim in the High Court on Monday in a move which could have seen Andrew Andronikou's position as administrator declared invalid.
In a worst case scenario, that would have seen the court once again considering an application to wind Pompey up.

The end of HMRC's challenge to Pompey's administration means attention will now turn to the Premier League.
Under league rules, Pompey will receive a nine point deduction this season for entering administration.
Mr Andronikou previously made it clear he plans to fight the rule.
Manager Avram Grant also came out fighting against the point reduction last week, arguing it penalises those not at fault for Pompey's financial mess.
Mr Andronikou attended a meeting at the Premier League last week.
And, at yesterday's press conference, he hinted the league will not back down on its rules.
Responding to a question about the Premier League's point deduction, Mr Andronikou said: 'I share the view with Mr Grant that football matters and financial matters should be very much separate but I fully understand the Premier League's position.'
