HMS Shoreham's home visit
The ship's company of HMS Shoreham has arrived in her home town for a four-day visit.
The minehunter, captained by Southsea resident Lieutenant Commander Andy Lamb, arrived yesterday at Shoreham-by-Sea near Brighton for the first time since 2007.
She was carrying the ship's sponsor Lady Nicola Perowne and her husband Admiral Sir James Perowne, as well as a small group of Sussex Universities Royal Naval Unit members.
HMS Shoreham will host visits by local colleges and cadets until Thursday night.
Lt Cdr Lamb said: 'I'm thrilled to be visiting our home town and am very much looking forward to growing our already strong affiliation with Shoreham-by-Sea.
'We look forward to making our various visitors very welcome.'
Before joining Faslane-based Shoreham in August 2008, the crew completed a seven-month deployment in the Arabian Gulf in HMS Ramsey where they undertook a number of mine hunting operations and exercises.
Since taking over, the ship has been fitted with the latest high-technology Sea Fox mine disposal system and is preparing for sea training before returning to the Arabian Gulf.
