Hope for Harvey in fight against palsy
A little boy with cerebral palsy is on his way to Germany for treatment after a successful fundraising campaign.
Harvey Telford's parents are celebrating after raising the 9,000 needed for the treatment at a specialist centre in Dusseldorf.
The family will fly out on June 22 and the following day bone marrow will be taken from Harvey's hip.
On June 25 it will be put back into his body and hopefully get to work healing his damaged cells.
Harvey's mum and dad, Jamielee Davey, 23, and Jimmy Telford, 27, have spoken of their delight and gratitude after meeting the target earlier than they expected.
June is shaping up to be a busy month for the young family, with Jamielee and Jimmy set to tie the knot ten days before they fly to Germany.
A recent fundraising evening held at Enska martial arts centre in Kingston Road, Buckland, proved a huge success, with an auction and raffle raking in 4,000.
Speaking to The News, Jamielee said: 'We are absolutely over the moon, we couldn't be happier.
'We didn't expect it to go so well and the next morning when I was counting all the money up I couldn't believe it and had to count it again.
'We are just so grateful to everybody for their support. Saying thank you just doesn't seem enough.
'We just hope that the treatment goes well when we get to Germany.'
The family are planning to continue their push to raise money for Harvey, to pay for intensive physiotherapy after his treatment in Dusseldorf.
Jamielee said: 'We have been told it will help, after he has had the work with the stem cells done.
'It will give him a bit of a push and it is one more thing we can do to see if we can get anything else from the treatment.'
Cerebral palsy causes physical disability and applies to the cerebrum in the brain and the disorder of movement.
After Harvey's bone marrow is extracted from his hip bone it will be processed in a lab, where the quantity of the stem cells is checked, before it is re-injected into his body.
