Hunt for attacker who punched pensioner in Portsmouth

A 72-YEAR-OLD man was punched and verbally abused in an unprovoked attack.

The pensioner was assaulted by a man as he tried to sit on a seat at a bus stop in Commercial Road, Landport, Portsmouth.

The attacker claimed the seat was ‘his.’

He moved away and started to speak to another man, but the other man followed him and hurled abuse before punching him in the chest.

PC Kirstie White, who is investigating the incident, said: ‘This was an unprovoked attack on an elderly man in a busy location, which is likely to have drawn attention to passers by.

‘We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who recognises the attacker from the description.’

The suspect is aged 54/55, 5ft 8in tall and of a stocky build with stubble on his face. He was wearing a brown jacket.

Anyone with information about the attack, which happened at 10.30am on November 1, should call PC White at Fratton station on 101.
