MOST people like to bring back a souvenir from an away game.

But all mum-of-four Sharon Knight came home with after Pompey’s match on Saturday was a broken arm.

The 41-year-old threw her hand in front of a stray football as it hurtled towards her son in the stands at Peterborough.

Her unwavering mother’s instinct unfortunately left her with broken bones after the force of the ball bent her arm backwards.

Sharon is keen to look on the bright side and is celebrating Pompey’s 3-0 triumph.

Sharon, of Pook Lane in Chichester, said: ‘It was such a freak accident and I can’t believe it happened.

‘It was just before Pompey had scored their third goal.

‘The player shot and it went over and I stuck my hand out to stop it hitting my son in the face.

‘It struck my hand and I just felt everything move back up to my elbow.

‘Pompey then scored straight away so everyone was celebrating behind me.

‘I had to sit down. I thought I was going to faint.’

Sharon was taken to hospital in Peterborough by paramedics where doctors X-rayed her arm and found it was broken.

She is now waiting to hear whether it can heal in a cast or whether she will have to undergo an operation.

Her son Jack, 11, said: ‘I was standing there and I had a bit of a late reaction with this ball flying towards me.

‘My mum put her arm out and her arm just went back.

‘It was pretty obvious it was broken.’

The Knight family are all avid Pompey fans, so for Sharon the silver lining was in the club’s 3-0 win against Peterborough.

She added: ‘Thinking about it afterwards I still couldn’t believe it had happened, but we were really pleased with the result.

‘We are all Pompey fans and we go to away games all over the place.

‘I was very tired by the time I got home at the end of the day. It will certainly be a memorable game.’

As a Posh fan can I wish this lady a speedy recovery. At least she had the pleasure of witnessing our worst display of the season and an easy and deserved 3 points for your guys. Oh, and is there any chance of her signing for Posh and replacing our useless goalie? UTP!! :-)

I really think The News should follow this up. Does Taylor know what he did? Sharon might end up with a free season ticket to London Road games as compensation. On the other hand she might want to keep quiet about it!

@ Clanfield Blue, sorry you have read it wrong. The sentance is about the "Mother's instincts". "Her unwaivering mother's instinct" is therefore correct as the son would not have a mother's instinct. I know it is great to pick reporters up for spelling or grammer mistakes but this time it is right. The English Language is so complicated at times no wonder we make so many mistakes. I wish I could spell correctly all the time.

Just to let everyone know it was Peterboroughs Paul Taylor who hit the shot that just cleared the bar and was going to hit my son in the face but thanks to a strong hand she managed to knock the ball away but obviously done this damage. Thankfully my daughter in law went to the medics with her so I could watch the rest of the game ;0) On behalf of my wife thanks for the messaged. Play up Pompey!!!

Sharon I guess u will read our comments my question to you is--- Did your hand-arm end up hitting your son in the face with the ball ? If so that must of hurt ur son more than the ball would have and if it didn't that means the ball wouldn't have hit him anyway ! Get well soon though :)
