Illustrious sailing delayed again

HMS Illustrious has encountered yet another delay in its deployment from Portsmouth to the Indian Ocean.

The flagship aircraft carrier was due to set sail at midday today, but will now leave at 7pm.

The vessel was forced to return home yesterday after only two days at sea because of a faulty fridge.

Naval bosses were expecting the problem to be fixed by this morning, but engineers were still working on the industrial-size fridge today.

The fridge carries supplies of meat and vegetables to sustain the crew.

Navy spokesman Anton Hanny said: 'It has taken a little longer than expected to fix the problem.

'But we said she would be going out today and indeed she is.'
