Inflatables warning as Hampshire hots up

People flocking to the beach this week have been warned to take extra care with inflatables.

Solent Coastguard reported its crews had responded to a number of calls yesterday with people getting into difficulty with inflatables in the water.

Toby O'Neil, a helmsman at the RNLI station in Ferry Road, Eastney, Portsmouth, said: 'People need to be careful with the tides, which can get quite strong around here.

'We are expecting a very busy week with the weather forecasts as they are, and we want to warn people to take care with inflatables in the water.

'We would also urge youngsters not to get involved in tombstoning, as this is extremely dangerous.'

A Solent Coastguard spokesman yesterday added: 'We have been very busy today, with lots of 999 calls about people, mainly adults, getting into trouble with inflatables.'
