Jet-ski trio are lucky to be alive

COASTGUARDS say three people are lucky to be alive after their jet-ski rolled over and started drifting out to sea last night.

One woman and two men were spotted struggling off Southsea beach at 7.15pm on Monday. After failing to restart the jet-ski, the men tried to swim back to land with the craft attached to their bodies while the woman stayed on-board.

All three were close to hypothermia and were only rescued after a man looking out of his hotel window spotted them in trouble.

The Portsmouth RNLI Lifeboat crew raced to the scene to find the jet-ski drifting 500 yards off shore between the War Memorial and D-Day Museum.

RNLI spokesman John Feltham added: 'They were very lucky someone had spotted them because they had no way to raise the alarm. It was getting dark and they would have been in a life-threatening position because they were a long way out from shore.'
