THE justice secretary has paid a visit to a boxing club in Portsmouth.
Chris Grayling MP went tot the Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Club at Charter Academy this morning.
He met three ex-offenders who were referred to the club by the probation service.
He told The News: ‘I’m a great champion of voluntary sector projects like this, they’re very important.
‘I think what it does is create an opportunity to engage people who might become disengaged.
‘What we’re clearly seeing here it is also serving as a vehicle re-engaging people whose lives have gone wrong.’
As reported, the club’s coach Q Shillingford recently was awarded an MBE for years of service to boxing and young people in the city.
The successful club works with young offenders and adult ex-offenders.
Mr Grayling later visited Southampton to talk about the launch of Community Courts in Portsmouth.
