Long-established coach firm goes bust
Hellyers, the Fareham-based coach company which has operated for 40 years, announced this morning that it had no money to pay its drivers and had called in the administrators, Rogers Evans of Southampton.
Devastated staff were told of the decision only today but many had begun to have suspicions yesterday when several of the firm's coaches were taken away to a compound.
Many staff had worked for the firm for more than 20 years but during a staff meeting they were told that the company didn't even have enough cash to give them redundancy pay.
The company runs school run services and also coach holidays.
Although the company does have coaches abroad it is understood that all will have returned to Fareham by tonight.
A statement released by Rogers Evans said: 'Rogers Evans is currently arranging for minimum disruption over the weekend and an alternative operation will be fulfilled. Mr Evans is hoping to meet with an alternative operator today and is confident that pre-bookings will be honoured.
