Look who's coming to visit Portsmouth...

The Duchess of Cornwall will carry out her first official duty in Portsmouth next month to honour Royal Navy medics' work in Afghanistan.

She will spend several hours on Whale Island listening to their stories and hearing about the treatment they have given to injured soldiers, airmen and marines during their tours of the war-torn country.

She will visit HMS Excellent on Friday, July 10 where she will present them with campaign medals.

The Royal Navy led the Joint Force Medical Group in Helmand Province in Afghanistan from October 2008 until April this year.

The navy supplied 340 men and women to the group, the largest deployment of medical staff since the Falklands war in 1982.

Royal Navy medics provided care in 13 frontline bases in Helmand, patrolling and providing on-the-spot trauma care.

Nearly 70 more navy medical staff have also recently returned home from the service hospital in southern Iraq.
