STRIKING HMS Illustrious arrives at Glenmallan in Argyll

CUTTING an imposing figure off the coast of Scotland, this is Portsmouth-based HMS Illustrious as she heads north to the Arctic.

The aircraft carrier was north of the border at Glenmallan in Argyll to take on the stores and ammunition she will need before heading much further north for Nato war games led by Norway.

She will be inside the Arctic Circle for eight weeks as she prepares to become the UK’s on-call helicopter and commando carrier, ready for action anywhere in the world.
