Magic Matthew's a hit with kids
MAGICIAN Matthew Garrett proved so popular with children he couldn't even slip away for a lunch break.
The entertainer kept the audience at Port Solent's packed boardwalk spellbound as a steady stream of visitors stopped to watch him perform a range of magic tricks, a puppet show and some balloon modelling.
And after his first time working in Portsmouth, the Magic Circle's close-up magician of the year 2010 said he enjoyed his five-hour performance.
'It was a fantastic day,' he said. 'The weather was lovely and the turnout was brilliant and you can't ask for much more than that.
'The boardwalk was packed with kids all afternoon, and more kept turning up when the others left.
'My show received a great response and I will definitely be looking to come back to Portsmouth again.'
The performance was organised as part of Port Solent's summer of holiday activities, running throughout August and into September.
Other attractions will include craft and circus workshops, clown shows and a mobile farm.
