Man admits hit-and run on bicycle-riding police officer

COURT Freddie Field

COURT Freddie Field

A MAN who was disqualified from driving went on the run after he ran over a police officer last year, a court heard.

Freddie Field hit PC Alison Zachs in Sedgeley Close in Southsea when she was on bike patrol on May 24.

The 28-year-old was arrested in Portsmouth nearly four weeks later after he fled the scene and went on the run.

At Portsmouth Crown Court, he admitted to actual bodily harm, driving while disqualified and dangerous driving.

Police said PC Zachs received hospital treatment for her injuries which were not life-threatening, although she was left shaken by the incident.

Field, of London Road, Portsmouth, was arrested at an address in Fratton Way, Portsmouth, on June 19, 26 days after the incident took place.

He was arrested following an appeal for information in The News.

Field also admitted a separate public order offence of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour at the Etap Hotel in Fratton Way, Portsmouth, on April 21 last year.

He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on Friday, April 5.
