Man drove van while banned

DRIVING while disqualified led to a suspended jail sentence for Andrew Balderston.

Balderston pleaded guilty to committing the offence while driving a Ford Transit van in Euston Road, Southsea, on January 14.

The 35-year-old, of Milton Road, Milton, Portsmouth, pleaded guilty to committing the crime while subject to a 12-month conditional discharge for criminal damage. He was sentenced to 16 weeks in jail – suspended for a year by city magistrates. He was also put under supervision for 12 months and banned from getting behind the wheel for a year. Balderston pleaded guilty to driving the van without insurance but magistrates imposed no separate penalty for that offence.
