Man injured in Portsmouth assault

A student was assaulted in an unprovoked attack.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident just off Winston Churchill Avenue close to Portsmouth city centre.

Just before 1am on Sunday two students were walking home along Bradford Road by Tipton House when they were approached by another man who then attacked them.

A 19-year-old male student was treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital for cuts to his chin and arm which both required stitches. The other student, a 20-year-old man, was uninjured. A 38-year-old Portsmouth man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and bailed until June 1.

Anyone with information should contact DC Katie Holland at Fratton CID on 101.
