A MAN was assaulted in an unprovoked attack in Portsmouth.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following an assault on Dover Road in Portsmouth last Wednesday at around 5.45pm.

A 36-year-old man was punched in an unprovoked attack, leaving him with a broken nose and bruises on his face.

The man who punched the victim walked off south towards Tangier Road shouting at him.

The victim believed the suspect may have been under the influence of either drink or drugs due to his manner and the fact he continued shouting and swearing all the way down the road.

The man is white, around 5ft 9in tall, skinny and clean shaven, with short, dark brown hair.

He was wearing white trousers which were either shell suit or tracksuit bottoms, and a long-sleeved top of a darker colour.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det Con David Higgins at Fratton police station on 101 or via hampshire.police.uk.

You can also call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
