A MAN has been fined for driving when nearly three times the drink drive limit.
Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court heard that Peter Garretty-Crane, 57, had been pulled over after disembarking a ferry in Portsmouth.
His car, a Honda Civic, had been spotted swerving across the lanes on December 18.
Garretty-Crane gave his contact address as Swanwick Lane, Lower Swanwick, although he now lives in France.
The court heard how Garretty-Crane had been drinking on board a ferry after feeling low.
When immigration control spoke to him it was apparent that he had been drinking.
Police took him to hospital where a test revealed he had 275ml of alcohol in 100ml of blood – the legal limit being 80ml.
The defence said that Garretty-Crane had a history of mental health problems and alcohol issues, and that he was intending to disembark the ferry and call somebody to take him home once he passed passport control.
He was fined £350 and ordered to pay £35 victim surcharge and £65 costs.
He was banned from driving for two years.
