Man rescued from house fire

A MAN was taken to hospital after a fire broke out at his home in Leigh Park.

Havant fire crews were called at 12.20am on Sunday to the 40-year-old home, in Meadow Place, after a passer-by spotted flames inside.

Firefighters forced their way in and rescued the man, who was unconscious, along with his three cats.

The cats were not harmed.

Medics from South Central Ambulance Service resuscitated the man before taking him to Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham.

He was treated for smoke annihilation.

The cause of the fire, which began in the lounge of the house, is unknown.

Much of the house was badly damaged.

Firefighters and police are investigating the cause of the fire.
