Men charged after Saints and Pompey fans clashed

THREE men have been charged with violent disorder following clashes between rival fans at the Southampton v Pompey FA Cup tie.

Martyn Bishop, 42, from Wheatlands, Fareham has been charged by officers investigating trouble during the local derby.

Ross Phillips, 28, from Swift Road, Southampton, and Michael Byles, 24, from Aldermoor Road, Southampton, have also been charged.

Police say they expect to make another arrest tonight.

It comes after a police appeal to trace 10 supporters in connection with the trouble last month.

At least five of the men came forward after police released CCTV images in a bid to trace them.

Detective Inspector Linda Howard, who is leading the investigation, said: 'We have identified more than half of the people (in the images]. Most of them have phoned us up themselves but we have also been contacted by members of the public

'There are others who will be arrested this weekend. We are well on the way to naming all of them.'

Eleven fans were arrested and charged with public order offences following Portsmouth 4-1 win over Southampton at St Mary's Stadium on February 13.

Anyone with information should call police on 02380 674391.
