The leader of the Liberal Democrats says Mike Hancock will be expelled from the party.

It comes after the Portsmouth South MP yesterday made a public apology over his ‘inappropriate friendship’ with a female constituent.

Earlier in the day, Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg called on Mr Hancock to resign and said he had no future with the party.

But now he has said the MP will be expelled.

Mr Clegg told the BBC: ‘I think it’s very clear to me he has no future as a member of the Liberal Democrats, because he’s apologised for causing immense distress to a vulnerable and innocent constituent of his.’
