Missing rapist gives himself up to Portsmouth police

MISSING Leon Douglas

MISSING Leon Douglas

WANTED rapist Leon Douglas has handed himself in to police following an appeal in The News and on portsmouth.co.uk

Detectives took the unusual step of releasing an image of convicted sex attacker Douglas almost three months after he went on the run.

Despite the best efforts of police, Douglas had not been traced since flouting his curfew at his Fareham home on August 19.

Now he is under arrest after handing himself in at Portsmouth Central police station in Winston Churchill Avenue _ after his photo was published on the front of The News.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: ‘Missing sex offender Leon Douglas was arrested at 11.30am this morning after he reported to Portsmouth Central Police Station.’

Douglas was released on licence after serving part of his eight-year jail term for two counts of raping a woman at a Portsmouth home in May 2008 and one count of actual bodily harm.
