Wallington Flooding

WEATHER experts warn more flooding could be on its way.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Portsmouth and its surrounding areas for Saturday, Sunday and Christmas Eve.

Though a yellow warning is low risk, residents are being advised to keep prepared.

And the Environment Agency warns that there could be more flooding because the ground is saturated and rivers are swollen.

But today the weather will be mainly dry with periods of sunshine.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said: ‘The weather can change and the warning could be upgraded. So be aware that when you are out and about over the weekend there could be some disruption.’

Meanwhile, flooding at Botley yesterday morning resulted in trains being unable to operate between Eastleigh and Fareham.

A total 20mm of rain had lashed the area the night before.

Buses replaced trains between Fareham and Eastleigh, with journey times extended by up to 30 minutes. Trains from Portsmouth to London Waterloo via Basingstoke were diverted via St Denys, Southampton. Last night South West Trains said plans for this morning depended on the weather overnight.

Yesterday Hampshire police received 46 calls in the space of three hours from people after heavy rainfall created flooding and surface water on the roads. The force is advising people to take care when driving in wet conditions. The AA also responded up to 12 calls from people in and around Portsmouth who had driven through water and got stuck.
