Motorcyclist fighting for his life following A27 crash

A motorcyclist is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a serious accident.

The rider, thought to be in his 50s, was travelling on the eastbound carriageway of the A27 when he lost control of his bike.

The accident happened on the slip road of the A27 close to the Langstone roundabout at about 1.40pm yesterday.

Firefighters from Havant and police were called to the scene, while paramedics battled to treat the man, who was then taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham for further treatment.

Members of the public who were watching paramedics work on the man from a footbridge over the roundabout were told to move on by police.

The road was closed for more than an hour while police investigated the accident.

They were seen photographing the scene and the debris which was left on the road.

A police spokesman said: 'The driver sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.'

The roundabout was closed for more than an hour during the police investigation, causing huge tailbacks in all directions. The roads were already very busy with motorists heading out to enjoy the sunshine.

So far, there are no details to reveal the identity of the man and it is unclear what his injuries are. It is also unclear whether or not he was unconscious at the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident and are urging anyone with any information to call PC 3647 Turner at Cosham Roads Policing Unit on 0845 045 45 45, quoting operation Highlight.
