Motorcyclist is hurt in crash
A MOTORCYCLIST was seriously hurt in a crash.
The man in his 60s, from Gosport, was riding a Honda motorbike which collided with a Vauxhall Corsa on the roundabout above junction 11 of the M27 near Fareham.
Police and Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance were called to the scene following the crash at about 11.40am today.
The carriageway on the roundabout was closed briefly to allow the air ambulance to land and take off.
However the rider was eventually taken to hospital by road ambulance. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The Corsa driver, a Portchester woman in her early 20s, was uninjured.
One lane of the roundabout remained closed to allow the emergency services to respond to the incident and was re-opened at around 1.20pm.
The main carriageway of the motorway beneath was unaffected.

Friday, February 17, 2012 at 01:50 PM@9 But you do not have any proof that that happened at all in this instance do you? Maybe the motorcyclist was peering into the car drivers car as he had such a high view point?!

Friday, February 17, 2012 at 01:11 PMWhy the question about the phone, simples, every near miss I've observed recently usually involves a cage aimer 'playing with their toys'! 'Invisible' texting with the phone held at the bottom of the steering wheel is quite visible when you have a higher view point, ask any trucker, or Police Motorcyclist...

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 06:05 PMI'm glad the motorcyclist seems ok. My daughter, 10 year old grand daughter and her friend went past just after the accident and it was awful for us all not knowing whether he had died. When the air ambulance is there you always assume the worst. My daughter and her husband are both bikers and and it does worry the rest of the family. Please can everyone stop making assumptions as to fault? It's not helpful.

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 09:44 AM@6 I agree. As if it's not sad enough that someone has got hurt it's made worst by people jumping to conclusions. Although possible, it's quite unlikely that either driver was over the legal alcohol limit at that time of the day and there is simply no proof that the car driver was emailing, speaking, faxing, on Facebook or any of the other things that have been suggested.

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 06:37 AMMaybe the driver pulled out or changed lanes without spotting the biker. Maybe the biker pulled out or changed lanes without spotting the driver. Maybe the driver skipped through a red. Maybe the biker skipped through a red. As strange as it may seem, road accidents used to happen before the advent of the moble phone. Since there's very little info in the article, it's a bit early to make judgements.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 06:27 PMI agree @2, what a bizarre thing to suggest given that no details of that nature were provided in the story. Should the guy on the bike have his visor checked to see if it was fogged up also?!

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 05:18 PMthe drivers would be checked for alcohol and should have the phone checked as a matter of course, these are two of the biggest distraction to drivers .hope the biker is ok and the driver ok .traumatic time for both

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 05:03 PMI hope all are ok as well. But why do you assume they were on the phone?
