Movies helped care home win award

A care home that has that shown some all time movie greats has won a top award.

Malmesbury Lawn Care Home, in Woolston Road, Leigh Park, provides a home for people aged 65 and over who have dementia.

It was a winner at the South Central Health and Social Care Awards at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, after developing two different gardens for residents.

They raised money to develop a working garden/vegetable garden with eight large raised beds for vegetables and a Walk in the Park garden which includes The Kabin tea hut.

The gardens and The Kabin, allow residents and their families to spend quality time together in beautiful surroundings, and enjoy a cup of tea and a piece of cake.

Malmesbury Lawn also offers film nights in The Roxy cinema, a room in the home. Three nights a week residents can enjoy ice cream which watching some movie greats such as Breakfast At Tiffany's, The Sound of Music and Mamma Mia!

Malmesbury Lawn and other regional winners will be considered by a national judging panel and the winners will be announced in July.

Bill Dyet, manager of Malmesbury Lawn, said: 'We were really pleased that the families had so many good things to say about the care at Malmesbury Lawn, getting shortlisted for the South Central Awards was indeed a reward in itself.

'The fact that we have gone on to win the award still seems a bit unreal.'
