MP backs paté ban

PORTSMOUTH South MP Mike Hancock is among dozens of fellow politicians who have called on restaurants to ban foie gras and replace it with the new animal welfare-friendly version.

The Lib Dem signed the motion against foie gras, which is traditionally produced by force-feeding ducks and geese until their livers have swollen to around 10 times the normal size.

The motion calls upon the restaurant trade to consider moving to faux gras.

High-profile critics of foie gras include former James Bond star Sir Roger Moore.

The actor backed a ban on foie gras sales in the UK.
