GOSPORT MP Caroline Dinenage has praised the Chancellor’s decision to cancel a planned fuel duty increase.
The government says it will save more than five million motorists in the south east around £170 each year.
The fuel duty has now been frozen for three-and-a-half years.
It also says that the price of fuel at the pump will be 13p lower than if Labour were in power.
A driver of a Vauxhall Astra will pay £7 less each time the tank is filled up, and £9 if it were a Ford Mondeo, says the government. A van driver will save £340 a year, while a haulier stands to save £5,200.
Ms Dinenage said: ‘I’m delighted that the government has listened to the concerns of my constituents in taking the decision to scrap the rise.
‘This is great news for hard-working families and businesses across the Gosport peninsula.’
Ms Dinenage said she has campaigned to prevent fuel increases and last year signed up to the FairFuel pledge.
