Mum pays tribute to son who died too young

Distraught mum Christine Lord paid a poignant tribute to her son on what would have been his 25th birthday.

The 51-year-old released four balloons in memory of Andy Black from Portsdown Hill at 12.50pm yesterday, the exact time of her son's birth.

Andy died last December following a five-month battle with variant Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease – the human strain of mad cow disease.

During that time Christine watched helplessly as her son turned from a healthy young man into someone who could not feed himself or even speak. She now campaigns tirelessly to bring those she believes were responsible for the disease to justice.

As she released the balloons, one from her and the others from Andy's sister Emma, 18, and friends, Christine, of Wilton Terrace, Southsea, renewed her pledge to fight for justice for her son.

She said: 'I let the balloons go at the precise time Andy was born. All I keep thinking was this time 25 years ago I was holding a healthy, 8lb baby.

'I feel devastated. My son's death was avoidable and I promised him I will never rest until the people responsible for his death are held accountable.'
