Navy diver raises £5,000 to fight partner's disease
A navy diver has raised more than £5,000 to fight cancer as a tribute to her partner who is currently battling the disease.
Lieutenant Commander Jacqueline McWilliams from the defence diving school in Portsmouth was the organiser behind the ALIJACK charity day in aid of Cancer Research's breast cancer awareness campaign
The name for the event was based upon a shortened version of Jacqueline and her partner's name, Alison Munsie.
Alison, 50, was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2007, but is currently in remission.
Jacqueline, 40, wanted to give something back in support of all the valuable work the charity does in researching and trying to cure the most common cancer in the UK.
The day was split between a golf competition at Wickham Park Golf Club with 48 golfers, followed in the evening with a formal black tie ball for 91 guests at the wardroom in HMS Collingwood in Fareham.
Lt Cdr McWilliams said: 'The conditions at Wickham Park golf course were excellent and made for a good round for everyone. For Alison and I the day was pretty manic going between the golf course and the Wardroom at HMS Collingwood to set up for the ball in the evening, but it was fantastic.'
