Neighbours left shocked after facial stabbing

Neighbours have spoken of their shock after a man was stabbed in the face.

The 24-year-old victim suffered facial injuries after the attack inside a flat in Nobes Avenue, Bridgemary, Gosport.

He was taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries after the incident at 9.30pm on Monday, as reported in The News yesterday.

An 18-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and is currently in custody.

Police yesterday sealed off the entrance to the flats, which is above a parade of shops in Nobes Avenue.

The fish and chip shop, underneath the flat where the victim was stabbed, had to be temporarily closed while police carried out their investigations.

Barbara Pannell, 70, who lives nearby, said: 'It's frightening, it's not nice at all.

'It used to get a bit noisy up here but it's not that bad.

'It's alright round here, I think.'

A 46-year-old woman, who wished to remain anonymous, added: 'It's horrific. It just goes to show what people have got with them, they're carrying round knives. I don't know anything about it but I was shocked when I found out.'

Sarah Ince, 22, who lives in one of the flats in Nobes Avenue, added: 'I was out at my new place decorating, and I got back at around 10pm.

'My first reaction was that something had happened to my kids because there was an ambulance outside the house, so I panicked. I'm not surprised by the incident, they are always having their arguments – but saying that I am surprised it was a stabbing.

'I have seen the victim, but I don't know him to speak to. From what I've seen, they are a really nice family.'

Police confirmed that an 18-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.
