New NHS dentist delayed
THE opening of a new 8,000-place NHS dental practice has been delayed by three months.
Last month NHS Hampshire announced the opening of a new practice in Fareham by the end of July, but refused to say where exactly it would be.
It has now confirmed the address as 7 West Street in Fareham, but has had to delay opening because one of its new dentists is having to serve out a three-month notice period at their current job.
NHS Hampshire spokeswoman Mel McKeown said: 'Almost 1,000 local people have registered as patients at the new practice. They are being advised that the opening of the practice and therefore their first appointment will be delayed by three months.
'The new practice apologises greatly for the delay and will make contact with patients who have already left their details in due course.'
If anyone feels they are unable to wait, or have developed an urgent problem, they should contact the Dental Helpline on 0845 0508345 which will assist with either joining another practice locally or if necessary issuing people with an appointment for urgent care. People are advised not to attend the practice in person to register.
