Olympic games 'will come to Havant'

MORE than 30 initiatives are being pursued by a council to get people fitter and healthier in time for the London 2012 Olympics.

Havant Borough Council has revealed a raft of schemes aimed at getting residents, and particularly children, more active.

The schemes, to be rolled out over the next two years, include supporting free sport sessions and coaching for people.

The council is supporting a scheme for more community football sessions in partnership with Havant and Waterlooville FC.

The action plan intends to promote the borough's beauty spots, including Staunton Country Park and the Hayling Billy Trail.

An outdoor gym is also being built at Eastoke on Hayling Island.

The 25-page report said: 'Havant Borough Council will work with other public sector and voluntary organisations to deliver a programme of activity, with sustainable legacy, related to the 2012 Olympics, Paralympics and Cultural Olympiad.'
