Owner furious as travellers leave site strewn with debris
The owner of a field left in a disgusting mess by travellers has spoken of his disgust.
George Byng owns the Parklands business park in Forest Road, Denmead, which was invaded by travellers just over two weeks ago.
Residents living close by told The News how they were kept up all night by loud music and the noise of generators and quad bikes being driven up and down the beauty spot which is popular with dog walkers.
The travellers eventually left on Monday afternoon and Mr Byng had to foot the 1,760 bill after calling in a company to clean up after them.
The field was covered in rubbish, including human and animal excrement and tons of tree branches.
Mr Byng, of Soake Road, Denmead, said: 'I'm nearly 74 and I don't need that kind of thing at my age. It took six men, a lorry and skips to take away the rubbish but it's all cleaned up now and it is finally looking good again.
'It has cost me a lot of money and they didn't finish until Friday morning. We had solicitors involved but the travellers left before we could serve an eviction notice on them.'
Travellers have set up camp in the field three times in the past 20 years and cost Mr Byng almost 14,000 in clear-up fees.
The travellers told officers from Winchester City Council they were heading to Bournemouth.
