PC after crook ‘at any cost’

A POLICEMAN accused of dangerous driving over his pursuit of a stolen vehicle was after the crook ‘at any cost’, a court heard.
A jury at Guildford Crown Court was yesterday told PC James Holden’s driving fell ‘far below’ the standard of a competent and careful driver.
Holden, 35, who works at Fratton Roads Policing Unit, pursued the stolen Renault Kangoo minivan through Portsmouth after spotting it at McDonald’s at The Pompey Centre in Fratton on February 6 last year.
The vehicle had been reported stolen in a house burglary in the Petersfield area earlier that day.
The minivan went through red traffic lights, the wrong way round a roundabout and on the wrong side of a dual carriageway before smashing through level crossing barriers at Cosham train station.
Prosecutor Robin Sellers said: ‘The real point is that PC Holden was after him at any cost.’
PC Holden, of Titchfield, denies dangerous driving.
