Pedal power boosts help for heroes coffers

Bar staff got on their bikes to raise cash for our armed forces injured in the line of duty.

Setting out from Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth, 24 staff from Yates's bars across the south east pedalled to Bournemouth, via the Isle of Wight.

The sponsored bike ride raised 7,000 for charity Help for Heroes.

The group set off from Portsmouth at 11am and caught the ferry to Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight.

The cyclists then rode to Yarmouth on the island, where they caught another ferry to Lymington in the New Forest. From there, they pedalled on to Bournemouth, reaching their destination at 7pm.

Ronan McCann, who organised the ride, said: 'It was great.

'Everyone finished and it was a good day.

'The weather was kind to us too because it was sunny but not too hot.

'There was a great atmosphere and we had a brilliant reception at Yates's in Bournemouth when we got there.'
