A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER has been overwhelmed with support she received after her pet dog Molly was mauled by a German Shepherd.
Pensioner Elizabeth Higgs and 11-year-old Molly have received countless gifts since their plight was highlighted in The News.
Wellwishers – many of whom do not know Mrs Higgs, 78, or Molly – have sent flowers, chocolate and treats for the convalescing West Highland Terrier.
Residents in Cheltenham Road and Stratton Close, Paulsgrove, Portsmouth, where Mrs Higgs lives, have even held a collection to help raise money towards Molly’s vet bill.
Mrs Higgs said: ‘I’m a bit overwhelmed with all the help.
‘I’ve had lots of flowers, chocolates, doggy treats and presents.
‘People have collected in Cheltenham Road and Stratton Close towards our vet bill.
‘I just wanted to say thank you to everybody.
‘Molly’s doing really quite well now.’
She added: ‘I even had a parcel through the post from two ladies from Drayton.
‘It’s just so overwhelming.’
As reported, Mrs Higgs was out walking Molly when the German Shepherd, which was not on a lead, attacked.
Molly needed stitches and a drain in her lungs at Pet Doctors in Havant Road, Drayton, Portsmouth.
Mrs Higgs, who walks Molly three times a day, was on her way home to Stratton Close in Paulsgrove when the attack happened in nearby Cheltenham Road.
The incident was reported to police but last night neither the woman owner nor the dog had been traced.
Anyone with information about the attack, which happened at about 5.15pm on October 19, should call Hampshire police on 101.
