Petersfield students finding out about energy use
Volunteers from IBM Hursley are running green day initiatives at two Hampshire schools.
The team have already visited Churcher's College in Petersfield and will visit Bedales School, Steep, on Saturday to demonstrate new technology that gives students an insight into power usage in their schools.
The Current Cost power meters can monitor power usage so students can analyse and consider the use of energy, and the wider impact of their school on the environment.
IBM believes that allowing students and staff actually to 'see' their school's energy consumption will encourage behavioural change, such as switching off lights and computers when not in use.
The data collected by the technology also allows students to view the school's energy consumption history and compare the energy usage of several buildings on site.
The energy monitoring projects conducted on the green days have been organised as part of an IBM community challenge initiative.
