Pirate DVD haul lands man in jail

A man who had 201 pirate DVDs has been jailed.China-born Hua Xue, 44, was stopped by police when he was riding his bicycle in Southbourne on May 6 this year.

He was carrying some counterfeit films which had not been released in UK cinemas.

Xue pleaded guilty to the offence at Chichester Magistrates Court and the court heard he has two similar previous convictions.

Xue, from London, came to the country in 1995 after encountering problems in China, the court heard.

The court was told he owes 38,000 to the Chinese government.

After sentencing Xue to eight weeks in prison, magistrates ordered for the destruction of the pirate DVDs and for him to pay court costs of 60.
